What certifications does this product have?

RIA carries the coveted “CE” certification. Since 1985, the European Union (EU) uses the Conformitè Europëenne (CE) Mark to regulate the quality of goods sold. It is only awarded to products that fulfill the requirements of relevant European product directives, meets all the requirements of the relevant recognized harmonized performance and safety standards, and is fit for its purpose and will not endanger lives or property.

RIA is RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)compliant. RoHS  is used in the EU to restrict the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products, like RIA.

RIA's HEPA filter has been independently tested and verified as exceeding H12 standards.

The device is manufactured by a double certified ISO-rated facility, and has been independently verified to improve overall air quality.

How do I wear it?

Arrange the fully charged RIA comfortably around your neck with the filter (widest part) at the back of your neck. Press the power button once and you will hear a beeping sound indicating it is on and generating negative ions. Press the button again and you will hear two beeps and see the LED light turn green, indicating that the HEPA filtration is working, press and hold a third time for optimal HEPA + negative ion generation. Press the button once more to turn it off.
Use the telescoping arm to adjust the device so it rests comfortably close to your nose and mouth. PLEASE RETURN THE DEVICE TO ITS NORMAL POSITION BEFORE YOU TAKE IT OFF. If you try to remove it with the arm extended, you risk breakage.

How much does it weigh?

It’s light as a feather….if that feather is about ½ a pound, or 230 grams.

Is this made in China?

No! RIA comes from the home of K-pop, cutting-edge beauty products, and Hyundai, namely (South) Korea. RIA’s manufacturer is a leader in the water and air filtration and purification industry, and maintains ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications, which meet the highest standards of manufacturing.

How often do I need to charge it?

That depends on how you use it. If you mainly use the ion-only setting, the charge will last about 26 hours. If you are using 2-layer protection (negative ionization technology, plus H12 HEPA filter, the workhorse of air purifiers) the charge will last about 13 hours.

How long does it take to charge?

RIA charges in about four hours, and comes with a USB cable so you can charge it just like you would your phone—in the car, in your house or through your computer.

Will this fog up my glasses?

No. RIA simply cleans the air around your mouth and nose so you breathe fresh air.

Is it noisy?

Not at all! At its maximum level, the air volume is 50m/ h, or about 45 decibels, which is the equivalent of someone quietly whispering. So yeah, we can literally say it’s whisper-quiet.

Can I bring RIA on the plane?

Yes! All RIA components are TSA-approved. Just include your RIA with your other electronic devices during the standard security screening process. Safe travels!

How do I clean it?

Please treat this like any other essential electronic. Gently wipe down your RIA with a clean, dry cloth or alcohol wipe (preferred). Be sure to address the vent and air disbursement areas. We recommend doing this after every use, especially if you've used it all day.

  1. DO NOT submerge your RIA in water or use an overly wet cloth.
  2. DO NOT use any acetone-based products on RIA, as it will cause cosmetic damage to the unit.
  3. When using alcohol wipes or isopropyl alcohol, DO NOT use alcohol with a concentration higher than 70%, otherwise damage to the unit may occur.

Will this unit fit me?

RIA is designed to be worn around the base of your neck and will fit adults with collar/neck measurements up to 20”. For optimal comfort and airflow positioning however, we recommend collar / neck measurements be 18” in or lower.

How to measure your collar/neck size:

  • Lace the measuring tape around the neck at the height where the collar would normally rest, just below a man’s Adam’s apple. Do not crane your neck out or squeeze your chin down. The tape should be resting lightly on the skin, not squeezing it.
  • Hold one finger under the tape measure to ensure some room for comfort. Don't pull too tightly so as to create unnecessary tension, just enough so that you are getting a true measurement. Make sure the tape is level and not being held at an angle.
  • If you measure your neck without a finger under the tape, then add ¼” to the measurement. Always round up to the closest ½ inch to determine dress collar size. For example: if your neck measurement is 15" or 38 cm - then your dress shirt size should be 15½ inches or 39.5 cm.

How do you pronounce this?

We call it RIA. It’s pronounced the same way it’s used: Inhale a big breath of fresh air (RRYYY), then exhale with a satisfied AHHHHH. It makes you feel as good as it sounds!

What are the physical dimensions of RIA?

7.9” (Length) x 8.8” (Width) x 2” (Height)

Can I get RIA in another color?

No, not right now for individual purchasers. However a host of customization options are available for Partners who order 100-500+ units. Please see our Partners' section for more information and/or to enroll.

Does RIA come in different sizes?

We offer a one-size fits most, at the moment. RIA comfortably fits 99% of adults and is designed to accommodate collar/neck measurements up to 20”. For optimal comfort and airflow positioning however, we recommend collar / neck measurements be 18” in or lower.

While we do not have a kid-sized version (yet), RIA is safe for children and will still offer that additional layer of protection.

Health & Wellness

Can I wear this outside?

Because RIA is engineered to purify and push clean air toward your nose and mouth, wind and inclement weather can divert the airflow, thus decreasing the direct benefits. For that reason, we strongly recommend you use it indoors. But we also strongly believe preventative measures should be “BOTH AND” versus “EITHER OR”. For this reason feel free to use RIA wherever you’d like some clean air breathing room, even if that’s out on the patio. (Just don’t wear it in the rain!)

Can this help with all the air pollution?

Customers do report relief while wearing the device during low air quality days. Numerous studies support HEPA filtration as an additional measure of relief for allergy sufferers and those who are sensitive to poor air quality—just ask Google! But the only way to truly help mitigate air pollution is for us all to work together and make an effort to improve the overall outdoor air quality in and around our communities.

Can wearing this help with my allergies?

Air pollution isn't limited to car exhaust or factory smoke. Dust mites, mold spores, pollen, and pet dander can all wreak havoc on allergy and asthma sufferers. Many customers report relief from allergies and other airborne irritants when wearing RIA because of its premium HEPA filtration with activated carbon—whose job it is to trap these pollutants—combined with negative ion generation. This type of protection can support overall wellness when used along with other best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Why do I need to clean the air indoors? Isn’t the pollution outside?

As humans, we spend 90% of our time indoors, where the air is 5x more deadly than outdoors, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  This means your body is under attack by the gruesome GENS and inhaling both indoor pollutants like dust mites, chemicals, mold spores, and outdoor pollutants that come inside with you. In fact, almost 4 million people die every year as a result of indoor air pollution, according to the World Health Organization. RIA uses premium HEPA filtration with activated carbon, and negative ion generation to clean all that garbage out of the air so you can take a safe deep breath (wherever you happen to be).

Can I wear this instead of a mask?

Isn't breathing better air just plain better? Protective measures should be “both and” not “either or.” And when it comes to air we breathe, clean healthy air is always better. RIA adds a second layer of protection you won’t get from a mask alone. And while we would never recommend not wearing a mask, the reality is there are times when it's impractical or impossible to do so—like when you're sipping your tea or munching some tasty snacks. So whether the mask is on or off, RIA is still busy surrounding you with the “gold-standard” of air purification, unmatched by any other wearable personal air purification device currently on the market. And who doesn't want that?

Will this protect me against COVID-19?

Even the most meticulous observation of protection protocols don’t always protect individuals from contagion. The truth is, it takes a lot of layers of protection to stay safe, and even then there’s always a risk. That’s why we focus on risk reduction by adding a layer of clean air in addition to following the CDC best practices.

Here’s what the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has to say about personal air purifiers, “When used properly, air purifiers can help reduce airborne contaminants including viruses in a home or confined space. However, by itself, a portable air cleaner is not enough to protect people from COVID-19. When used along with other best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, operating an air cleaner can be part of a plan to protect yourself and your family.” Visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to learn more about best practices.

Aromafication

Won’t the essential oils ruin the HEPA filter?

Providing you’re using good quality oils and they’re applied sparingly, no, not at all! Essential oils are a safer, more natural alternative to freshly scent your personal air space and avoid the hazardous chemicals released by sprays and candles. The aromatic natural compounds they contain are sourced from plant bark, seeds, leaves and stems. Along with giving your space a wonderful scent, many oils come with beneficial properties:

  • Lavender and tea tree can disinfect and kill dust mites.
  • Eucalyptus, cypress, and rosemary prevent bacterial growth.
  • Lemon, cinnamon, and thyme control the spread of viruses.
  • Sage and sandalwood are effective against mold growth.
  • Oregano, bergamot, and clove have antibiotic properties.

Do I need to change my filter more regularly when infusing with essential oils?

No, not if utilized accordingly and reapplication is limited when scent has dissipated or disappeared. With regular use, the HEPA filter should be replaced every 3 months, however there is never any harm replacing the filter more frequently. If you are using the Aromafication™ benefits of RIA you should replace the filter more often.

How do I store my oil-infused filter?

Our tins are built to keep your oil-infused filter free from dust, light and keep it from losing its smell or therapeutic value. Whether infused, or not, we recommend all filters be stored in their respective tins when not in use.

Future options will include #Scentventure bundles of 7-filters––one for each day or the week––with labels explaining the oil / blend inside. So keep your eyes peeled.

The smell is gone. How do I reapply?

While we recommend sticking to the same essential oil as used previously, there is nothing that prevents you from trying a new oil or blend. Simply apply 2-3 drops of good quality essential oil in the same manner as outlined.

Should I re-infuse the filter with essential oil everyday?

No! We recommend application should ONLY be done when the smell has dissipated or disappeared, typically 7-10 days after initial application. Applying more frequently may cause oversaturation of the filter and compromise its effectiveness.

How long will a single application last?

While it all depends on usage, the typical reported duration of a single application*, is one week to ten days. We do NOT recommend reapplying until the scent has fully dissipated. *Single application = No more than 2-3 drops of good quality essential oil placed on the activated carbon side, NOT the wavy side of the filter.

Is it safe to use other kinds of oils?

No! ONLY good quality essential oils should be utilized.

  • Fragrance oils are typically artificially scented, carry zero therapeutic value, and may in fact be harmful to the air you breathe
  • Lesser quality essential oils are often diluted, they will not produce the same results and depending on their dilution, may in fact compromise RIA’s efficacy
  • Infused “carrier oils” are typically meant for topical use only, not diffusion, and should never be used for this purpose

Anything other than GOOD QUALITY essential oils -- see our list of recommendations -- will ruin the efficacy of HEPA filter and should be avoided.

What if I placed essential oils on the wrong side of the filter?

Uhhh oh. Mistakes happen. Essential oils should be placed on the activated carbon side, NOT the wavy side of the filter. If you have placed oils incorrectly, we recommend discarding that filter and reapplying correctly to a brand-new filter.

What kind of HEPA filter does RIA use?

RIA comes with our Pyure HEPA H12, activated carbon activated filter. HEPA filters are broadly used because they're considered optimal for most biological applications, including healthcare. The “grade” of HEPA or the level of efficiency is presented in a range. For True HEPA, the range is from H10 to H12, with H12 being the top of the class.

Take a look at this short animation to see what we mean.

What is a HEPA filter?

HEPA stands for High, Efficiency, Particulate, Air. It’s the workhorse of any air purifier! Originally developed in support of cleanrooms for atomic energy development, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) created HEPA filters as an alternative to a gas mask. HEPA filters are constructed with tightly woven, electrostatically-charged, fibers that act as a magnet to attract and filter particles, while letting oxygen through.

The Science

keyboard_arrow_down

Ozone, ionic, anion generators….aren’t they all the same?

Nope! Here’s a quick explanation: Manufacturers of ozone generators claim to be able to clean the air of irritants and odors by releasing ozone into the atmosphere. However, the fact is that ozone generating devices may actually make allergies, respiratory diseases, or labored breathing worse! RIA does not generate any harmful ozone.

Ionic/anion generators, on the other hand, are based on the chemical properties of ionic compounds. (You might have learned a little about this in science class!) Particles are either negatively or positively charged. Dust, bacteria, smoke, pollen and other irritants are positively charged particles. RIA emits negatively charged ions that act as magnets to attract and bond with the positively-charged particles in the air. When the negative and positive ions bond together, the particle becomes too heavy to remain airborne, which means you don’t inhale it!

RIA also adds a second layer of premium, carbon-activated HEPA filtration to clean the air around your mouth and nose (which is where you want clean air to be!). When coupled with activated carbon, H12 HEPA filters remove airborne particles up to .003 microns at 99%+ efficiency. When combined with negative ion generation this 2-layer protection is the highest standard of air purification available in a wearable device.

Has your product been tested or certified?

Yes. The unit’s advanced functionality, almost non-existent ozone emissions level, and superior HEPA filtration have been independently third-party tested, and verified.

RIA also carries a coveted “CE” certification. Since 1985, the European Union (EU) uses the Conformitè Europëenne (CE) Mark to regulate the quality of goods sold. It is only awarded to products that fulfill the requirements of relevant European product directives, meet all the requirements of the relevant recognized European harmonized performance and safety standards, and is fit for its purpose and will not endanger lives or property.

It is also RoHS-compliant. RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is used in the EU to restrict the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products, like RIA.

And the unit is manufactured by a double certified ISO-rated facility
